The School Holds the Opening Ceremony for the Grade-2020 Freshmen
On the morning of October 2, the opening ceremony of the Grade-2020 freshmen of the school was held in the lecture hall of the library of Yanshan campus. Party Secretary Wang Youzhi, Dean Han Huijian, Vice Dean Lin Peiguang, Dean Assistant Zhang Rui, Department Chairs Liu Zheng, Li Fangzhen, School Work Office Counselors and all 463 Grade-2020 freshmen attended the opening ceremony. The ceremony was presided over by Lv Haixia, deputy secretary of the party committee of the school.
The opening ceremony officially kicked off in the warm applause of the students. At the beginning of the ceremony, all the teachers and students stood up and sang the national anthem to extend their lofty respect and blessings to the great motherland.
First, Han Huijian delivered a speech. He expressed his warm welcome and sincere blessings to the Grade-2020 freshmen. Dean Han introduced the school’s history, development status, teaching and research, faculty, discipline construction, and achievements, etc., which deepened the students’ understanding of our school and enhanced their pride and confidence. He said that as a college student, the most important thing is to learn to "be a person, do things, and learn." He hoped that the students would look up to the starry sky with lofty ideals, take practical actions down-to-earth and learn to manage themselves by self-reliance and self-discipline. He also encouraged students to learn how to do things by improving professional IQ, cultivating work quotient and mastering humanistic methods, and learn how to do learning by establishing correct learning attitudes, mastering scientific methods and improving self-learning ability.
Li Fangzhen, the head of the Department of Artificial Intelligence, expressed ardent expectations to all freshmen on behalf of the teachers of the school. He said that students should study hard, make progress every day, try to eliminate the interference of bad ideas from the outside world, study every course assiduously, and master solid basic theories and basic knowledge. He also reminded the students not to do evil things though they may be insignificant and not to give up good things though they may be minor matters. He hoped that the students will stick to themselves, be less eager to compete for fame and gain, be more peaceful, and have a little bit of Ah Q's spirit of regarding disadvantage as a blessing, be a sunny, optimistic and broad-minded person.
Afterwards, the student representatives from the class 1802 of digital media technology Sha Yuqi and the freshman representative from the class 2001 of financial informatization Wang Haotian spoke successively. Sha Yuqi shared her own experience and thought of studying and growing up during the university as an old student. And as a freshman, Wang Haotian aspires to enrich himself and improve their determination and confidence in the four-year life of university.
Finally, Party Secretary Wang Youzhi made a concluding speech. He talked to students about the three questions of "what is a university", "why go to university", and "how to spend the university". He quoted classics and elaborated on the connotation of "university". And he described why go to university from four aspects: "university will develop students’ hobbies and ideals", "university will bring students’ knowledge and vision", "university will cultivate students’ sense of innovation", and " university will provide students with the best connections and resources ". At the same time, he requires students to be ambitious, work hard, change their learning methods, pay attention to social practice, master strong work and entrepreneurial skills, be self-improving, diligent, and complete university academic tasks with high quality, exercise five abilities and achieve the four qualifications. We must learn the rules and regulations, know the law and understand the law, act in accordance with the law, study hard, and grow into a high-quality outstanding talent with comprehensive development.
The ceremony ended successfully with the warm applause of the students. The opening ceremony sounded the clarion call for college life for all Grade-2020 freshmen and pointed out the direction for them to face the next four years of college life. After the ceremony, the freshmen expressed that they have a better understanding of the school, college, and major, and will adapt to university life as soon as possible, and devote themselves to their studies.
